Hifz (حفظ) is the Islamic science of memorising the entire Quran. A person who completes Hifz is called a Hafiz or Hafiza. It is a lifelong commitment that requires discipline, guidance, and regular practice.
Structured Learning Path
Our Hifz tutors follow a proven methodology. You'll memorise one section (Juz) at a time, with regular revision sessions to strengthen retention.
1-to-1 Accountability
Your tutor tracks your progress, monitors daily revision, and provides personalised feedback. You'll never feel lost or unmotivated.
Emphasis on Tajweed
Memorisation without proper Tajweed is incomplete. Our tutors ensure you memorise with correct pronunciation and recitation rules.
Celebration & Milestones
Completing each Juz is celebrated. Regular milestone reviews keep motivation high throughout your Hifz journey.
The Hifz Journey
Phase 1: Foundation (Months 1–6)
Your tutor assesses your current Quran knowledge and speaking ability. You'll start with short surahs (chapters) to build confidence and establish daily revision habits.
Phase 2: Building Momentum (Months 6–18)
Steady progression through the middle Juz (sections). Your tutor increases the daily memorisation target as you gain experience. Regular revision keeps earlier sections fresh.
Phase 3: Endurance & Completion (Months 18–60)
Longer surahs and rapid memorisation. Continuous revision of all sections. Your tutor maintains accountability and celebrates milestones.
Phase 4: Mastery & Certification (After 60 months)
Final review and consolidation. You'll present your complete memorisation in a formal Ijaza ceremony (certification). Your journey becomes part of the Islamic tradition.
Questions About Hifz?
Can I start Hifz if I don't know Arabic?
Yes. You don't need to understand Arabic to memorise the Quran. Your tutor will teach you proper pronunciation and Tajweed rules. Many Hafizas don't speak Arabic natively.
How much time should I dedicate daily to Hifz?
Most Hafizas dedicate 1–2 hours daily to memorisation plus 1–2 hours to revision. Your tutor will set a target based on your pace. Consistency matters more than intensity.
Is it possible to complete Hifz as an adult?
Absolutely. Adults learn differently than children but can complete Hifz successfully. Your tutor will pace the programme to fit your life and learning style.
What happens if I forget sections after memorising them?
Revision is key. Your tutor builds revision sessions into your weekly schedule. Forgetting is normal — consistent revision prevents memory loss.
Can I do Hifz online with a tutor in another country?
Yes! All our Hifz tutors teach online via video call. You can work with a specialist tutor regardless of location.
How much does Hifz tuition cost?
Qalam tutors charge £8–12/hour. Most students take 2–3 sessions per week. Some families invest in intensive Hifz programmes.
