About Qalam

Qalam is a platform that connects students with verified Quran tutors for live, one-to-one sessions conducted online. By creating an account or using the platform in any way, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Qalam.

Accounts

You must provide a valid email address and verify it before booking sessions.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. Do not share your login credentials with anyone.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that are used fraudulently.

Free sessions

Every registered student receives one free 15-minute session per day. The free slot resets at midnight and applies per account, not per device.

Free sessions are intended for students to meet and assess tutors before committing to paid sessions. Attempts to circumvent the daily limit — including creating multiple accounts — are prohibited and may result in account suspension.

Qalam reserves the right to modify or withdraw the free session offering at any time with reasonable notice.

Paid sessions

Paid sessions are charged at the tutor's listed rate for either 30 or 60 minutes. Payment is collected at the time of booking via Stripe.

Qalam takes a platform fee from each paid session. The remaining amount is held and paid out to the tutor after the session is completed.

Prices are displayed in GBP. Students outside the UK may be subject to currency conversion by their bank or card provider.

Cancellations and refunds

Free sessions

Free sessions may be cancelled up to 1 hour before the scheduled start time. Cancelling a free session returns your daily slot so you can rebook on the same date.

Paid sessions

To cancel a paid session, contact us at [email protected]. Refunds are issued at our discretion and are more likely to be approved when requested well in advance of the session.

Tutor no-show

If a tutor fails to attend a confirmed session, contact us and we will issue a full refund for paid sessions and return your free session slot.

Gender separation

Qalam enforces gender-based tutor matching as a core platform principle. Male students may only book male tutors. Female students may only book female tutors. Parents may book tutors of either gender for their children. This is not negotiable and cannot be overridden.

Student conduct

  • Treat tutors with respect in all sessions and communications
  • Join sessions on time with a stable internet connection where possible
  • Do not record sessions without the tutor's explicit consent
  • Do not use Qalam to contact tutors outside the platform for the purpose of bypassing platform fees

Tutor conduct

  • Attend all confirmed sessions punctually
  • Maintain the qualifications and credentials stated in your profile
  • Do not solicit students to book sessions outside the platform
  • Notify us promptly if you are unable to attend a session

Tutors found to be misrepresenting their credentials or conducting themselves unprofessionally will be removed from the platform without prior notice.

Platform availability

We aim for continuous availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access to Qalam. We are not liable for losses resulting from downtime, technical failures, or circumstances beyond our control.

Intellectual property

The Qalam name, logo, and all platform content are our property. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our written permission.

Limitation of liability

Qalam is a platform that facilitates connections between students and tutors. We are not responsible for the quality, accuracy, or outcome of any session. To the extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim arising from use of the platform is limited to the amount paid by you for the session in question.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email. Continued use of Qalam after such notice constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
